Crafting an Ideal Orange Garland for Festive Decorations

  1. Making a Dried Orange Garland: Oven Preheat Instructions
Start by adjusting the oven temperature to 225 °F. Let it preheat thoroughly as you assemble and prepare everything required for crafting the dried orange garland.
  1. Preparing the Oranges
Get 2 to 3 oranges and start slicing them. A serrated knife works well, but you can also use a mandoline to achieve uniform slices. Aim for a thickness of about 1/4 inch so that the slices dry completely. Place the slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Baking the Orange Slices
Pop the baking sheet into the oven and bake the slices for 3 – 4 hours. Keep an eye on them; you want the edges to start browning. Remember to flip the slices halfway through the baking time. Once they look just right, take them out and let them cool completely on a baking rack.
  3. Assembling the Garland
When the slices are cool, it’s assembly time. Fishing line gives the illusion that the slices are floating, while twine creates a more rustic look. You can get creative and add other elements to the garland, like fruit rind stars, felt pom – poms, or leaves, to make a unique pattern. Once your garland is complete, tie the ends of the fishing line or twine into loops for easy hanging.
  4. Hanging the Garland
Your handmade dried orange garland can be draped over the mantel or along a staircase, paired with a classic evergreen garland. Or, bring some holiday charm to everyday spaces in your home by hanging it above cabinets or around bed frames.
